In-person child / adolescent therapy

I offer one-to-one therapy for children and adolescents at the Mill Hill Therapy Hub using art and play to help them manage and overcome whatever they are going through.

Have you been worried about your child’s mood lately?

Have they had a sad, scary or traumatic experience that seems to be stopping them enjoying themselves?

Have they been anxious about school, bedtime, the loss of a loved one or a big recent change at home?

Has their behaviour become unmanageable and left you wondering how to help them calm down or explain what is making them unhappy or angry?

One-to-one child therapy at the Mill Hill Therapy Hub on Hale Drive may help your child and your family as a unit.

My specialist areas include:

FAQS

1. I’m worried about my child. What are the first steps?

The usual process is to email me or fill in my contact form with a brief summary of the issue and then book an introductory phone call between you and me (usually 30 minutes or sometimes 60 minutes) on my Calendly with a view to booking in an in-person 50-minute session for your child with me at the Mill Hill Therapy Hub if we feel it is a good fit.

2. How does therapy benefit children?

Therapy provides a new safe place for children to explore their feelings with a professional who can listen with empathy, find meaning and search for practical solutions. It adds fun and something to look forward to for children going through a difficult time. It also helps children feel supported by another sensible and caring adult so that they know they don’t have to solve their problems by themselves. I am also able to advocate for my clients in school, medical and home settings.

3. How long are sessions?
My sessions last 50 minutes and usually take place at the same time weekly or fortnightly during standard term time. These are available in-person only.
4. When do you have sessions?
I typically work on weekend mornings/early afternoon and on Friday afternoons. If these times don’t work for your family, I would be happy to refer you to a talented colleague who works at the Mill Hill Therapy Hub on other weekdays after school with appropriate availability and experience.
5. Are parents/caregivers allowed to attend sessions?
I am happy for parents/caregivers to attend sessions under certain circumstances. If your child has separation anxiety or is anxious in general, they may prefer you to stay in the room, particularly for the first session. We can work out when it’s the best time for parents/caregivers to leave or if it’s better to drop the child off at the start time and pick them up at the end.
6. How many sessions does my child need?
I tend to offer an assessment session to my clients and based on how that session goes, we would decide together if we book in sessions on a weekly or fortnightly basis, typically in blocks of six. All dates will be confirmed by email.
7. What should I say to my child before the first session?
Tell them that you have noticed that they have been having a difficult time. Let them know you are now taking proactive steps to help them feel better and that you’ve found a lady who specialises in helping children manage difficult events and big feelings. Her name is Saskia and she’s a therapist for children. She has a special art and play room filled with art materials and games for you to play with while you talk about what’s been going on and she’ll help us make a plan to help with all the areas you’ve been struggling with.
8. Do you collaborate with other practitioners as part of a holistic programme and do you offer ADHD/autism assessments?
While I don’t offer ADHD/autism assessments myself, I am able to use my therapeutic and previous experience as a teacher to make appropriate plans for children with all sorts of educational needs. I am able to offer referrals for assessments if necessary.
9. My child’s issue isn’t one of your specialist areas. Should I still get in touch?
I also have experience in other areas, but would also be very happy to recommend you to a trusted colleague with appropriate experience and availability at the Mill Hill Therapy Hub. Please fill in the form below with some information and I’ll be in touch.
10. May I pay for sessions using my health insurance provider?
I’m currently not registered with any health insurance providers, so all sessions will need to be self-funded.

If you’d like to contact me before booking a call, please get in touch.
