
The invisible child project
The Invisible Child Project, as seen in Therapy Today in October 2019 and featured on BBC Radio London in December2019, is a social and therapeutic scheme of group work for children who always get overlooked. You can download and read the full article here.
The Let’s Make Friends Letter Writing Project (as it is known to the children) pairs “invisible” children in a school or multiple settings and teaches them about themselves as they write to another child. In turn, this child receives letters making them feel validated and wanted.
The group work ends with a party giving them more time to feel special where they will formally meet their pen pal from another class or school.
The intervention was written by an art and play therapist, but can be run by any member of staff.
The packs include:
-how the scheme works
-questionnaires to find your invisible children
-5 weeks of group activities and letter structures - with information about what to say to your groups
-party invitations
-parent letters to ask for permission to attend and to explain the project
-a personal achievement checklist
-postcards for weekly updates for parents
-a certificate of completion
The three different packs are designed for:
Reception and Year 1
Year 2, 3 and 4
Year 5 and 6
